Toon Kit Collector Opens New Store

If you’re a Newcastle United fan there’s a new spot in town for you. Tucked away inside the beautiful Central Arcade a short walk from Monument, Toon Kit Collector has just opened its doors and it’s every retro football fan’s dream.

I photographed its official opening and it was a total nostalgia trip. From classic black-and-white home shirts to some of the best away kits from over the decades, every rack is packed with history. Plus it sells original bucket hats, made from Newcastle kits, and its own brand of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali t-shirts.

The shop officially opened on Saturday 12th July and will be around for at least 12 weeks, so there’s a bit of a limited-time buzz about it. It's run by Adam, who started Toon Kit Collector on social media, building a solid following of fellow Magpies fans. From there, he took things up a level with a regular stall at Tynemouth Market, and now the shop in Central Arcade, which opens at weekends, is the next big step.

I first met Adam last summer at another photoshoot to enhance his brand’s social media presence and it’s been amazing to see it grow into a city centre business.

An image of Tonali fills the window outside, and the vibe inside is very chilled. Think vintage shop meets NUFC museum. It’s kitted out with old matchday programmes and there’s even a framed photo of David Ginola for the lasses.

If you’re passing through town, whether on matchday or just out for a wander, pop in. Chat with Adam, check out the stock, and maybe pick up a shirt you haven’t seen since the Sir Bobby days. Don’t worry if you’re at the coast, he’s still at Tynemouth Market on Saturdays too.

It’s a class business and good luck to them.
