Hello…

Hi, I’m Martin and thank you for visiting my website.

Now that you’re here I thought I’d better introduce myself and explain a bit about my photography journey.

Five years ago, I picked up a camera for the first time and was immediately addicted to shooting the colours of sunrise and sunset. I’m from the North East of England, and yes I am biased, but it is without doubt one of the most photogenic yet underappreciated parts of the country. Our cities, castles, countryside and coastline, all within a short drive of each other, provide the perfect subjects to photograph, no matter the time of day or the weather.

At the very beginning, I never imagined how something so simple would become much more than just a hobby. Taking photos was initially an attempt to make morning walks more interesting, but it soon turned into a way of seeing where I lived in a completely new light.

Early on, I became fascinated by the magic of long exposures, the way water softens, clouds stretch, and time feels like it slows down through the lens. My mind was blown that a photo could take 30 seconds or a minute to take. It’s something I’d always admired in photos but, to be honest, didn’t have a clue how to replicate it. However, after weeks of embarrassingly terrible attempts I eventually got there, and five years on it remains one of my favourite ways to shoot.

As I gained more experience, my confidence in photographing people grew. I was initially hesitant to capture strangers, until one early morning at Tynemouth beach. I’d photographed, from a distance, a couple going in and out of the sea at the very moment the sun was peaking over the horizon. Moments later, the woman started to approach me and I braced myself for a stern telling off. Something like “do you always photograph half naked women, you massive pervert” was expected. (The answer to that would obviously have been “no”, by the way.) However, what actually happened was quite the opposite. She was incredibly grateful that I’d stopped to capture their special moment, we chatted and I sent her some of the photos. Months later she messaged to say she had got one of the shots painted by an artist and it now hangs on the wall of their home. I’ve since provided shots for various people in different walks of life, but I’ll always remember that chance encounter.

I'm entirely self-taught, and that journey, filled with trial, error, learning, and a lot of patience, has shaped my approach to every project I take on. Today, I have the privilege of working with local businesses, content creators, families, and brands to create images that feel personal and authentic.

My photography style is relaxed and natural. Whoever I am shooting, I aim to keep the experience light and enjoyable. If you're happy and simply being yourself, the photos will reflect that.

Photography is much more than just taking photographs. It gets me outside, it’s taken me to some beautiful new places and has introduced me to some inspirational people.
